M.Sc thesis Position
A position for an M.Sc thesis student is open at the Department of Communications and Networking at Aalto ELEC.
Localization techniques in wireless cellular communication systems constitute an active area of research due to their many potential applications in commercial systems. Recently, the 3GPP completed work on Release 14 of its standards, which enables localization in Narrowband Internet-of-Things -systems. The primary objective of this Master's Thesis work is to investigate the use of these newly-defined positioning techniques in NB-IoT networks being currently deployed by operators.
An existing NB-IoT-based system will be augmented with localization features. System performance will subsequently be analyzed based on data collected during a measurement campaign.
A successful applicant is expected to possess good C++14/17 skills, an understanding of wireless communication technology and a grasp of basic signal processing. Competency in software engineering, modern cellular system RAN/L1 design and an aptitude for writing high-performance software are an advantage, but not required.
The work will take place within Prof. Tirkkonen's research group at the Department of Communications and Networking (Comnet) as part of the EIT HII-ACTIVE project.
Starting time: July/August 2018, latest August 6.
Duration: 6 months.
It is expected that the research is done and thesis is written within this time.
Salary according to departmental principles.
